Easter sun, food and wine

What a nice Easter weekend it has been – and great weather makes everything even more enjoyable.

On Thursday night I enjoyed a girlie evening in Manchester with some colleagues, and experienced The Alchemist bar in Spinningfields for the first time. Spinningfields is my favourite part of Manchester at the moment – it has a really nice atmosphere, and is particularly lovely in the sun! The Alchemist is chic, has a decent outdoor seating area, and does great cocktails. I can recommend the gorgeous white cosmo (vodka, elderflower liqueur, grape juice and lemon bitters), which as a nice touch contained a frozen white orchid. We also drank Prosecco and ate delicious Italian food on the waterfront at Strada (also in Manchester Spinningfields), which I can highly recommend (http://www.strada.co.uk/). I had the Strozzapretti Salsiccia e Broccoli, which had spicy sausage, pancetta and broccoli sauteed with chilli butter – delicious!

On Easter Sunday I hosted a family get together, and made a summer themed buffet, complete with Easter cupcakes and chocolate nests. I used a cupcake recipe from the Hummingbird bakery book, and they turned out wonderfully.

My summer buffet also featured: a cooked ham; pate and french bread; ciabatta with oil and vinegar; duck spring rolls; rainbow salad; egg sandwiches; crispy garlic new potatoes (recipe from Jamie Oliver’s 30 minute meals); fizzy elderflower drink; Dandelion and Burdock and wine (of course). All in all it was a lovely weekend, featuring sun, food and wine. What can be better than that?
