Fashions Night Out in Manchester

Last night was Vogue’s Fashion Night Out, the “after hours shopping extravaganza”, which is kind of a big deal if you’re in one of the fashion capitals. FNO London had a launch party hosted by Asprey, a vintage grooming parlour-inspired event at Christian Louboutin – Christian Louboutin’s Fabulous Pieces and a roller disco at Rupert Sanderson amongst the many other exciting events.

Here in Manchester only a few stores acknowledged FNO, and I attended the event at Harvey Nichols, which had 10% off all ladies fashion, complimentary cocktails and makeovers, a DJ, style advice and FNO T Shirt customization.

I enjoyed a complimentary makeover courtesy of YSL, and thought it worth mentioning one of the products that was used. I requested a strong smoky eye, and the palette chosen was  YSL Midnight Garden Ombres 5 Lumieres, which is new for Autumn and according to the Harvey Nichols website is available instore only. This is a really gorgeous collection of sparkling purples and greens, which is quite a rare combination in itself, and the result was dramatic yet warm and suited my skin tone better than silvers and greys, which is my usual smoky eye choice. This was combined with a peachy lip and blush to complete the look, and an YSL makeover wouldn’t be complete without a demonstration of the many uses of Touche Eclat (which I already own) as a highlighter (both around the eye and used down the centre of the face to create radiance), and an eraser.

I can’t say I didn’t have a nice time (makeover, cocktails and discount!), but really FNO is something the whole city centre should embrace if it is to work. Come on Manchester! Let’s take a tip from London and sort it for next year!
