Autumn Life

And so, after a disappointingly rainy summer and a few mini heatwaves taking us into September, we have now officially arrived in autumn. And it’s a little different for us this year because it’s the first autumn we’ll spend in our own house, which means renovation planning and thoughts about seasonal decor. And also, we have been fostering a little rescue dog called Yoda, which is taking up a whole lot of our time and energy!

So far, autumn for me involves woodland weekend walks and taking in a lot of those autumnal outdoorsy smells which really get me in the mood for the season. I love switching over to an autumn/winter wardrobe, but this year it’s not just about cosy knits and sweaters (like this cool 1984 sweater from M&S by the way, great for those of us turning 40 this year); but also a great practical waterproof dog walking coat, such as this Outback Full Length Raincoat from Lighthouse Clothing. I really love those shoulder wings and the long length of it for keeping me completely dry during a rain shower, and also that cute checked lining. And not forgetting of course, a trusty pair of wellies. I guess you could say dog walking is my newest hobby, and I’ve taken to dressing the part!

Also on my autumn agenda this year:

  • Turning our attention back to the inside of our house instead of the garden.
  • Boarding out the loft so we have a lot more storage space.
  • Making a start on renovating some more rooms.
  • But also, finding time to plant some spring bulbs in preparation for the new year. I’m such a newbie gardener and have no idea what I’m doing, but I’m learning as I go.
  • Planning a cosy autumnal weekend away in the Lake District or by the coast.
  • Considering whether our front door really needs a homemade autumnal wreath, or whether I should just calm down and wait a couple of months to make a Christmas one…
  • And yes, getting ready for the Christmas countdown – my absolute favourite time of year!
  • All this plus looking after little Yoda, an absolute cutie but a real handful!
