If you have an avid reader in your life, you’ll love these great ideas for book-themed gifts. Some of them are books themselves – a person really cannot have too many books – but if you want something more unique, my list has you covered for that too. And how do I know they’re great ideas? Because they’re tried and tested suggestions! I’m bookish myself, have received several of the below items as gifts and absolutely love them!

Beautiful Hardback Classics
If your bookish friend is a fan of classic literature, you really can’t go wrong with a beautiful clothbound or hardback edition of their favourite classic, or one you know they’d love. There are so many beautiful editions out there that I personally wouldn’t even mind receiving another copy of a book I already owned, if it was a different and stunning version! I also love finding vintage hardback copies in second hand bookstores, and would love to receive something like this!
New Releases
Alternatively why not opt for one of the year’s newest releases! Books are always a good gift idea, especially if you have access to someone’s Goodreads account and can see what they usually like and/or what is on their “Want to Read” list.
Bookshop.org Gift Card
If you are unsure what they have already read or what they want to read next, a book voucher is a safe bet. I would absolutely love to receive a gift card for Bookshop.org which supports local and small independent bookshops. Here your friend can shop online while supporting participating indie booksellers, and they could even choose a specific bookseller who’ll receive 30% of the cover price.
Biblio Bloom Book Vase
Classic literature fans are sure to love the beautiful book cover-inspired vases from Biblio Bloom. Look how pretty!
Bookish Coasters
It’s a truth universally acknowledged that readers of books like to do so with a hot drink by their side. So book-themed coasters would surely be a logical gift. My friend got me these Jane Austen quote coasters which I absolutely love. And I also spotted this very cute ceramic Matilda coaster with an apt bookish quote, which would be perfect for a reader.
Beautiful Bookmarks
Unless your reader friend only uses e-readers or audio books, a lovely bookmark is a low cost and thoughtful idea. I like to support small artists by finding lovely illustrated bookmarks on Etsy. Or why not find a personalised bookmark like these beautiful leather ones for a unique touch.
Book Light
When the evenings are darker I really appreciate having a book light, which was a practical book-related gift I received last Christmas. It comes with a charger, and clips onto your book to help you read without the intrusive big light on. Here’s a similar book light.
Literary Wall Art
Another idea for bookish types is a thoughtful literary-themed print for their home. There are loads of great options to suit any taste, from typographical book quotes to book cover artwork and illustrated scenes from books. Or even just a reading-related scene like this vintage oil painting Woman Reading from Trove Prints or this colourful illustrated Book Girl from Fy!.
Games, Jigsaws and Puzzles
If your friend or family member has a favourite author or genre, you might find some related games or jigsaws that they’d love. Some cute examples are below.
- Lizzy Loves Darcy: A Jane Austen Matchmaking Game
- Jane Austen Guess Who
- Agatha Christy’s Death on the Cards Game
- The World of the Great Gatsby Jigsaw
- Really Loud Librarians Game
Are you obsessed with books, and if so, what great bookish gifts have you received (or would love to receive?)
