Last weekend I enjoyed my first backstage experience of a fashion show as I worked as a dresser for the fashion show organised by Selfridges at the Fashion Kicks event.
Shay and Jane Given’s stylish charity do, which was held at Lancashire County Cricket Club on Sunday, is organised to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support and featured a performance by Alexandra Burke and a celebrity guest list (MCFC players and their FA cup, plus stars from Corrie and Hollyoaks among others).
My experience of the event was from a backstage perspective, but have to say I thoroughly enjoyed being a dresser for the day. Although there was a lot of waiting around during the afternoon (along with some sewing, steaming, pressing, de-labelling etc) when the actual fashion show was running the atmosphere was really buzzing! My starstruck moment was seeing Lily Cole close up and in the flesh waiting to walk the catwalk in the McQueen SS11 Butterfly Dress. Judge for yourself but I think she looked completely stunning – this dress was made for someonw with her colouring!
