Reviewed: Urban Decay Lush Lash Mascara

I’ve made the decision to give my trusty old favourite MAC mascara the elbow for ethical reasons (they currently sell into China where animal testing is required on cosmetics). After it ran out I decided I wanted to give Urban Decay a go instead, because not only do I like their makeup in general, they’ve also been brave enough to pull out of the Chinese market on ethical grounds. And so they have the lovely cruelty free leaping bunny mark! The one I went for was their growth serum-infused Lush Lash mascara.

Firstly the packaging of this mascara is very unique, pretty and girlie, which makes a nice change and it does stand out. However I find the hourglass shape of the applicator a little strange and it’s quite awkward to use.

I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks now, and it applies very nicely and is not clumpy. I wanted something quite natural rather than epic lashes as it’s mostly for daytime use, and that’s why I went for this over the Urban Decay Big Fatty mascara. I think it was the right choice – it’s not too much, not too little. And after two weeks my lashes are in a nice condition, although I think it’s still too early to confirm whether the growth serum has had any significant impact on the length of them.

It can be a bit risky trying a new non-waterproof mascara, but I am pleased to find that with this one I haven’t ended up with dark under-eye smudges at the end of the day(which was a massive problem with the Benefit one I had once). It is also very easily removed.

I’m mostly very happy with this mascara and think it compares quite well to my old MAC one in all areas. The only thing I’m not 100% on is the shape of the applicator. Check out the leaping bunny though! I think that more than makes up for it!
