My new discovery this week is Curley’s Dining Rooms, which sits on the edge of a small reservoir near Rivington Country Park in Bolton and which I didn’t even know existed until weekend! It’s part of Curley’s trout fisheries so as you’d expect they’re specialists in fish and if you look at their evening menu it’s full of fresh fish dishes. But for me it’s more excitingly a great new find as a place for a Sunday lunch treat of fish and chips.

I paid a visit on Sunday with my family and we all ordered the same (giant) portion of Curley’s haddock (with optional gluten free batter) and chips served with a mini bucket of mushy peas, which was really delicious (and huge) and although I heard rumours that you can ask for a top up of chips I don’t know who would ever need this! The menu has plenty of other lunch options that do not involve fish, as well as a tasty looking breakfast menu, and they also have a choice of delicious-looking cakes for dessert, though again I couldn’t have eaten any more than what was on my plate!

What’s nice about Curley’s is that it is a really bright, modern dining room with windows overlooking the water, and lovely rustic elements such as wooden beams and a roaring fire, and even a live pianist playing background music to lunch by. It’s a lovely spot for a weekend breakfast or lunch and a catch up with friends!
