Snapshots of a Short Weekend

Was that the shortest weekend ever? This Monday I’m more annoyed than usual that the weekend is over because I was ill all Friday and Saturday! Even snuggling up with Disney’s Tarzan and other Netflix delights with cups of tea and treats didn’t really make me feel like it was a proper weekend.

Brockholes

Thankfully I felt much better by Sunday, just in time to enjoy a spot of open air theatre at Brockholes nature reserve. It began with a cream tea in the waterside visitor centre, and then it was off to the blustery outdoor stage area where one of my favourite ever books, Pride and Prejudice, was performed by Heartbreak Productions. (Check them out – they’re touring with 3 productions at the moment so could be coming to a park near you!)

The weather was very changeable, but I had a great time despite the rain showers and the soggy seat. I was really impressed at how the story was skilfully presented with just 5 actors playing all the parts, and how the original text was updated to add extra humour (including some improvised weather references). The glass of Barefoot wine at the interval that was included in the ticket price was also most welcome!

It may have taken several hours to thaw out when I got home but I love the idea of outdoor theatre or picnic concerts so it was all worth it! Shame about the Monday thing though.
