I was recently asked to create a botanical cocktail for the Ness Gardens Botanical Cocktail project, and I thought I’d share my “Summer Garden Smash” cocktail with you.

The idea behind the project is to incorporate herbs into cocktail recipes and I have been allocated vodka as my spirit base, (which is great as I have a lovely bottle of Grey Goose vodka burning a hole in my kitchen cupboard). I was provided with the following infographic as inspiration, and because vodka is apparently light enough to work with most strong herb flavours I decided to pair it with fresh mint and strawberries for a summer garden theme.

Ingredients (for 1 serving)
- 5 strawberries
- 5 fresh mint leaves
- Juice from a quarter of a lime
- 1 tsp sugar
- 50ml measure of vodka
- Lemonade
Method
- Crush the mint leaves together with the strawberries, sugar and lime juice. I preferred to keep some chunks of strawberry to create a “rustic” look, but you could go for a smoother puree.
- Mix together with ice and the vodka in a cocktail shaker.
- Pour into glasses (or jam jars), top off with a splash of lemonade and garnish.

A lovely refreshing cocktail for a summer garden party.
